Polyfill.io Alternatives & Feature Detection Cheatsheet

A reference guide for polyfill loading: security advisory on polyfill.io supply chain attack, Cloudflare cdnjs replacements, and conditional script loading.

· Published

[!CAUTION] Critical Supply Chain Warning: The original polyfill.io domain was acquired by a third party and actively used in supply chain malware injection attacks. Remove all references to polyfill.io immediately from all production codebases.

Secure Cloudflare CDN Alternative

Cloudflare and cdnjs host an isolated, vetted drop-in mirror of the polyfill library:

<!-- Secure drop-in replacement provided by Cloudflare -->
<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/polyfill/v3/polyfill.min.js"></script>

Conditional Feature Loading

To avoid loading polyfills on modern browsers that already support ES6+ APIs natively, use inline feature detection before injecting script tags:

<script>
  if (!(window.Promise && [].includes && Object.assign && window.Map)) {
    var script = document.createElement('script');
    script.src = 'https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/polyfill/v3/polyfill.min.js';
    document.head.appendChild(script);
  }
</script>

Modern frontend development bundles polyfills during compilation (via Vite, Webpack, or Babel) rather than loading external scripts at runtime:

npm install core-js

In your application entry point (index.js):

import 'core-js/stable';
